efficient endurance results

Measured outcomes and structured progression define our results.

Laura

When Laura first approached me, she was a dedicated nurse caught in a cycle of training to exhaustion without a clear plan. Between demanding night shifts and family life, she felt aimless and was hitting a plateau, plagued by self-doubt about whether she could properly prepare for her first triathlon without failing or finishing last.

We moved her onto a structured, phased plan through TrainingPeaks that specifically accounted for the physiological strain of her work schedule. We prioritized aerobic efficiency through Zone 2 work and integrated specific strength sessions to manage injury risks and build power. The focus was on consistent communication and accountability, ensuring her training stayed proactive and sustainable rather than reactive to her busy lifestyle.

The transformation in Laura’s confidence and physical performance has been significant. She moved from fearing the swim to finishing 1st in her age group and 5th lady overall at The Reef Triathlon. Alongside successfully completing her first full marathon, she secured major personal bests, including a sub-2 hour half marathon and a low 23 minute 5km.

Laura is now channelling that building confidence into much larger ambitions. She is currently preparing for the Nottingham Outlaw Half Ironman and her first 50k ultra-marathon at the Maverick Jurassic Coast. Her long-term roadmap is now focused on conquering her first full Ironman and even more challenging mountain trail events in Snowdonia, Wales.

Luke

Luke was already a capable athlete, but his training lacked a clear contrast between intensity levels, and his progress was often hampered by a complex personal schedule. He was relying on unreliable wrist-based heart rate data and supplements that weren’t aligned with his long-distance goals, which left him feeling on the back foot despite his efforts.

We moved him onto a structured, science-informed plan on TrainingPeaks that was built specifically around his alternating weekly availability. We used benchmark testing to set precise training zones and removed performance-hindering supplements to improve his power-to-weight ratio. By maintaining high accountability through regular communication, we were able to adjust his plan proactively around major life events like a house move, ensuring every session remained purposeful.

The results were immediate: Luke secured a 17-watt FTP gain and a new 5km personal best within just two months. His training has shifted from reactive to highly disciplined, leading him to register his intent to qualify for the GB Age-Group team. He is now preparing for the Cambridge Half Marathon and Outlaw Holkham 70.3, with a long-term goal of securing his GB Age group qualification at the Southport Standard Distance Triathlon.

Chloe

Chloe, a high-capacity finance professional, initially struggled with the lack of structure and uncertainty that came with training on her own. Her primary objective was to integrate training for major endurance events into a demanding career without being overwhelmed by the decision-making load. We established a structured routine via TrainingPeaks, moving from reactive sessions to a science-informed roadmap that provided the clarity and accountability she needed to progress.

The hallmark of Chloe’s journey has been a focus on adaptability. Over two years, we navigated intense work cycles, significant illnesses, and the logistical challenges of a long distance house move. By maintaining frequent personal contact and adjusting the intensity of her plan in real-time, we ensured her training remained a productive outlet rather than an additional source of stress. This relationship-led approach fostered a resilient mindset, allowing her to trust the process even during periods of significant personal change.

The results speak for themselves: Chloe achieved multiple personal bests at 5k and 10k distances and took over 10 minutes off her previous super-sprint triathlon performances. Most significantly, she transitioned from doubting her ability to finish a half marathon to successfully completing a 50km ultra-marathon. Her progression shows that with professional structure and a person-centered approach, ambitious adults can achieve meaningful athletic milestones alongside a busy professional life.

Pete

Pete came to us after finding that his performance had plateaued and his motivation was wavering with an AI training plan. His progress was soon challenged by a significant back and leg injury, later identified as Piriformis syndrome, which required a complete reconstruction of his training to manage pain while maintaining aerobic fitness. This period required a shift toward low-impact cycling and refined swim technique to ensure he stayed on track for his long-term goals despite being unable to run consistently.

To overcome these obstacles, we utilized a science-informed approach that replaced guesswork with structured data. We integrated video analysis for his swimming and eventually conducted formal lactate testing to move away from generic training percentages. The testing revealed that Pete needed disciplined Zone 2 and Zone 3 work to boost his oxidative system and reduce lactate production, allowing him to train more efficiently around his busy professional life.

Despite the chronic nature of his setbacks, this structured preparation led Pete to a successful finish at Ironman Copenhagen 2025. By prioritizing a long-term development mindset and trusting a process grounded in his specific physiological profile, Pete moved from frustration to a position of strength and clarity. He is now consistently building towards a big PB at Ironman Italy and also beyond with a clear roadmap for sustainable progression.

Jo

Jo began her journey in early 2025, balancing a demanding professional life with the goal of improving her endurance performance. At the outset, she faced significant barriers, including a fear of embarrassing herself in large events and a specific phobia of crowded open water swims. Although she was highly committed, she often felt frustrated by a lack of running progress and the challenge of managing training volume alongside physically taxing manual work, such as early morning milking shifts and stable management.

The coaching solution focused on providing a structured, relationship-led program that prioritized consistency and session clarity. This framework became essential when Jo navigated a diagnosis of hypothyroidism and anemia, which had previously hampered her recovery and pace. By tailoring her programming to accommodate these physiological factors and her unique work-life constraints, we shifted the focus from merely surviving sessions to achieving intentional progression through science-informed training.

These efforts culminated in a sub-3-hour finish at the Dorney Lake Standard Distance Triathlon—a milestone Jo initially doubted was anywhere near within her reach. Her development included a 16% increase in cycling power (FTP) and significant weight loss, which directly contributed to new all-time personal bests in both 5k and 10k running events. Conquering her initial anxieties, Jo has now transitioned from sprint-distance events to preparing for her first middle-distance triathlon at the Outlaw Half

Jo also completed the most sessions in 2025 of all Efficient Endurance athletes!

Dan

Dan joined Efficient Endurance seeking the accountability and structure necessary to balance endurance training with his work and family commitments including a young child. Initially facing challenges with race-day nutrition and significant swimming anxiety, he required a plan that replaced uncertainty with a clear, science-led roadmap. By focusing on a relationship-led approach and flexible scheduling, we were able to move beyond performance plateaus and build a foundation of consistent, sustainable progression.

This structured preparation allowed Dan to successfully transition from triathlons to completing a 50km trail ultra-marathon in grueling conditions. His results include notable personal bests, such as his first-place Parkrun finish on a slippery cross country course in a PB of 19:28. More importantly, Dan has developed the mental resilience to feel comfortable being uncomfortable, transforming his approach to training from one of anxiety to one of confidence and consistent high performance.

Mandie

When Mandie began her training in July 2024, she was balancing a high-pressure role at work along with fluctuating energy levels and injury niggles. By moving away from running on empty and adopting science-informed fueling and adaptive training plans, she successfully integrated consistent preparation into a life of 4:30 AM starts and long commutes.

The results of this structured approach have been transformative. Over 18 months, Mandie achieved a 2 stone weight loss and saw her performance trajectory shift dramatically. She smashed her 10km PB by seven minutes, significantly lowered her 5km time trial benchmarks, and transitioned from just getting round to being named her club’s “Best Vet Female” in early 2026.

Today, Mandie has moved from doubting her ability to finish a half marathon to proactively entering the Sandringham 24-hour endurance event. Her success demonstrates that with clear planning, regular accountability, and a focus on long-term development, even the most manic professional schedule can accommodate meaningful athletic achievements.
